Air Source Heat Pump Installation
Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) extract heat from the air outside your property and transfer it into your central heating, underfloor heating, or hot water systems. Fully renewable, they are an ideal way to save money on your energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint.
Cool-Tec are one of the South’s leading specialists in climate control solutions, with over 40 years of experience installing a wide range HVAC systems, from air conditioning units to cold storage. We provide a first-class supply and installation service, offering competitive rates, high-quality units, and an efficient fitting process.
No matter the size or layout of your property, you can trust us to provide the outstanding quality results you’re looking for.

Why Switch to an Air Source Heat Pump?
Replacing your existing heating system with an ASHP is an excellent way of saving money on your energy bills, shrinking your carbon footprint, and increasing the value of your property.
Money Saving
Air source heat pumps operate at over 300% efficiency, meaning that they require very little electricity to run – each unit generates over 3kWh of heat for each kWh of electricity it uses. This can lower you or your business’s energy bills considerably.
As of March 2022, you could save up to £1,410 annually by replacing an old G-rated boiler with an air source heat pump.
Government Grants Available
Thanks to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you can save £5,000 when replacing an old fossil fuel boiler with a low carbon heating system (such as an ASHP). You also pay no VAT on ASHPs for the next five years, making it the perfect time to upgrade!
Environmentally Friendly
Unlike gas or oil heaters, ASHPs generate heat from a renewable source. They are electricity-based and release no carbon emissions of their own.
Switching from a gas, coal, or oil heating system to an ASHP can lower your carbon emissions by up to 44% – a significant reduction in both the short and long term.
Quick Installation
ASHPs are simpler to install than other types of heater, including ground source heat pumps. Because there is no need for extensive groundworks, installing an ASHP takes only 2 to 5 days to complete and is much less disruptive to your daily life.
Even better, ASHPs can last between 20 to 30 years without requiring major maintenance! However, we recommend that you keep a regular maintenance schedule to ensure maximum efficiency.

Air Source Heat Pump FAQs
Do air source heat pumps still work below freezing point?
ASHPs are usually constructed to function at temperatures as low as -15°C. This means that they should be suitable for use pretty much anywhere in the UK.
For those living in areas that experience temperatures under -15°C, a ground source heat pump may be more suitable. This is because GSHPs generate energy through heat stored in the ground, rather than in the air, making them more resistant to seasonal changes.
Are air source heat pumps loud?
Air source heat pumps can make a moderate amount of noise (depending on the model and brand). However, they tend to make less noise than most fossil fuel boilers.
To mitigate the impact of any noise, you should select a location for the outdoor unit that is not near a bedroom or living area. Ensuring that your ASHP receives regular maintenance is another way to keep noise to a minimum.
How do I maintain an air source heat pump?
The great thing about air source heat pumps is that they require very little maintenance. However, in order to ensure that yours remains in top working condition, it is worth booking an annual check up by a professional.
Things like blocked air filters and damaged parts can inhibit your ASHPs performance and cost you more in the long run. As qualified installers and HVAC maintenance specialists, we can service all types of ASHP and give you the peace of mind that yours is working efficiently. Call us on 0800 0189941.
Are there disadvantages to an air source heat pump?
ASHPs have very few disadvantages, but they do have some drawbacks:
Dust
ASHPs can be sensitive to dust, which can build up over time in vents when it is transferred through the air, however, an annual clean-out should be all that is required to avoid significant build up.
Temperature Sensitive
ASHPs work best in temperatures between 0°C – 15°C. For temperatures drop significantly below freezing, the electrical power required to run will increase.
How efficient is an air source heat pump?
The efficiency of an air source heat pump is measured by the Coefficient of Performance (COP). A COP of 3, for example, would mean it generates 3 units of energy for every 1 unit of electricity consumed. Th higher the COP of the air source heat pump, the more efficient it is.
Most air source heat pumps have a COP of between 3-4 (depending on brand, model and even outside temperature).
How much does an air source heat pump cost?
An ASHP installation can cost anywhere between £1,500 to over £10,000. The final cost will depend on many factors, including the size of the property you need it to service. You may qualify for a government grant, so it’s worth checking if you are entitled to money off your installation.
Every ASHP system we install is fitted bespoke to your home or building. We take the time to understand your needs before recommending the perfect solution to match. Contact us to find out more.
Can you install ground source heat pumps?
As ground source heat pumps utilise a series of pipes underground, which requires plumbing specialists. Therefore, we do not install ground source heat pumps ourselves. However, we are able to work with other contractors to install these renewable heat pumps to your property.
If you are interested in a ground source heat pump, contact our team to discuss your requirements.
